Christmas Trees

by Ramona Bradbury

Tall ones, short ones, full ones, lean ones, Christmas trees abound everywhere during the Christmas season. Once the tree has been selected, it's time to think about a Christmas Tree Theme. So many ideas evolve from the many, many decorations that all the stores offer. Where do we start on a Christmas Tree Theme?

Most generally a place to put the tree has already been decided upon. A bay window or a wide, wide front window is a showplace for a beautifully shaped full tree. Many themes may be followed for such a setting. Lit with many, many lights among the decorations will delight any evening passerby.

In such a setting as this, twinkling lights will capture the eye of both the walker or a car's passengers. Gleaming ornaments of every color will reflect the twinkling lights making the tree seem to come to life! Hanging icicles that sparkle along with luminous garland will complete this idea for a beautiful Christmas Tree Theme.

In a corner, across from the fireplace, a lovely ribboned tree stands stately and tall. This theme shows a warm, soft beauty for a more discriminating room. Gold ribbon bows placed here and there over the entire tree catch up in each bow a golden ribbon garland that winds and swirls round and round. All the ornaments for this design would be in gold.

If lights are desired, a single color might be optimal, as the gold would pick up the light's reflection making the contrasted color gleam throughout the tree. The single colored light would also compliment the room's decor. What a majestic Christmas Tree Theme!

We cannot forget the children! They love Christmas and a tree is very important to them. Along with the family tree, a family's only child might like his/hers own tree in his/her room. It would be a lot of fun for the child to make some of the ornaments for the tree, with Mom's help of course. A single multi-colored light wheel, to light the tree, would be best for this purpose, as the child could turn it off and on more easily. It's safer also.

Of course we want lots of ornaments. Mineature animals, people, angels, santas, etc. can be used. It would be the child's choice. Fluffy cotton can be spread on the branches to represent 'snow.' The mineature figures can be placed throughout the tree. Keeping it simple and letting the child do most of the work will delight the child and complete a child's Christmas Tree Theme. Happy the child with his/her very own tree!

My postscript: Enjoy your tree whatever the theme.
